Today I attended a
Women's Investment
Network (WIN) meeting which I found pretty interesting. The
event co-sponsored by
Ater Wynne
and
Portland Development Commission
gives companies an opportunity to present their businesses in
summary to investors. The whole thing was illuminating from every
angle. Presenting companies get an opportunity to get exposure to
investors and get feedback on their presentations. Investors get
an opportunity to learn about some new investment potentials and
share investment experience. Today's company presentations were
from
Celana Bioscience
which offers predictive toxicology services to the drug discovery
industry. This service helps mitigate the risk to pharmaceutical
companies and reduce the extremely exorbitant cost of drug
development by offering predictive toxicology technology that can
predict that a drug will be toxic before the pharmaceutical
company has invested a significant amount of money in the
development of the drug. The other presenting company was
Pan Street Video an online local-search
advertising business. This company has developed a cool spherical
video technology that allows you to see on your online search
with a panoramic street-level view of the area complete with
advertising that is context specific. Today's meeting also had a
bonus presentation by
Global
Sistergoods, Inc.. This company works with womens'
cooperatives in third-world nations. Serving as a marketing and
distribution channel for these cooperatives, they import and sell
handicrafts as gifts in the U.S. They pay fair market wages to
the women artisans which enables them to establish businesses in
their countries. They are always looking to establish more
contacts to expand the markets they represent so visit their
website to contact them.
