Take a ride on the bus.

Posted by Administrator Jan 31, 2008

The OEN CEO Bus Tour is coming up this Friday and it should be not  only fun but interesting too. The first stop will be at Vesticon, a company whose mission it is to cure Vertigo. They will talk about their entrepreneurial path and where they are today. The second stop is Wired.md, a provider of educational medical videos. They have recently had a successful liquidity event that they can share some stories about. The bus tour meets at 12:45 am at the NW1st & Davis in front of the Smart Park. A recent story in the Portland Business Journal covers the new stimulus package by the US federal government. The $150 billion package, announced Thursday, would include $50 billion in temporary tax breaks for businesses as well as rebates for 116 million individuals who file tax returns, including people who don't make enough money to pay income taxes. I am interested to know if anyone thinks this will make a difference and will it really help? You've got that great idea. You no longer will be working for "the man" (I've always wondered who that is.) You're ready to blaze your own path. You're an entrepreneur....Face it, you need help. You need advice, support and maybe funding. You need a network.

Running around to every event in town sound appealing? Maybe not, and it might not be the best way to build the foundation for your venture's success.

Recently I read an article written by Kent Lewis, CEO of Anvil Media, about his referral-based networking strategy. I feel it provides entrepreneurs developing their businesses good insights and a doable approach for anyone (even if you're a shy person) to build a network that can provide amazing support.

For entrepreneurs, meeting the right group of people who can serve as advisers and can lend their connections is often invaluable to the development of their businesses. If you follow Kent's suggestions you may not only gain great business connections that can help your venture grow, you'll also get an opportunity to help others and make some serious investment in the karma bank and that is always a worthwhile thing.

Check out some upcoming networking opportunities at OEN events and other community events of interest.
